Have you ever considered Yoga as an easy way to relieve some of the back pain caused by aging?

When many people think of Yoga, their first thought is that it requires youthful fitness and flexibility. In fact, most seniors do not even realize that Yoga can be easy to do even while sitting in a chair. This is very helpful if mobility is a challenge. And most importantly, Yoga can be an effective way to reduce some of the back pain that develops from aging.

Dr. Vijay Gupta, the founder of Midwest Interventional Spine Specialists, has been serving the needs of pain and anesthesia patients for over 30 years. He regularly guides his patients in simple and effective yoga movements that can alleviate some back pain and potentially reduce the need for more complicated pain remedies.

Dr. Gupta recently demonstrated the possibilities with Easy Chair Yoga, for residents and guests at the Residences of Deer Creek in Schererville, Indiana. Seniors and baby-boomers packed the room to learn several easy yoga movements that could be done while remaining seated. This is especially helpful for those who might need to have the extra support of a seated position and for those who have mobility challenges.

Dr. Gupta explained how Yoga provides benefits to the neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, and musculoskeletal systems of the body. In other words, Yoga helps your brain, your heart, your lungs, your muscles, and your bones all to work more efficiently.

We will soon be launching educational videos to demonstrate the easy Yoga demonstrated by Dr. Gupta. As videos are available we will post them on our website. Also, the next time you have an appointment with Dr. Gupta, be sure to ask him to show you some easy yoga to help reduce your back pain.
