Important Change to Our Opioid Prescription Policy

— We would like to inform our patients of an important update to our clinic’s medication policy regarding the use of opioid medications in conjunction with marijuana.

Effective 5/1/2025 will no longer continue opioid prescriptions for any patient who tests positive for marijuana, whether used recreationally or medicinally. This decision has been made after careful consideration of current medical guidelines, safety concerns, and the need to ensure that our treatment plans prioritize the well-being and safety of all patients.

While marijuana is legal in some states for medical and/or recreational use, it is NOT legal in the state of Indiana and, it remains a substance that can interact with opioid medications in ways that may increase health risks. As a result, continued marijuana use will now be considered a contraindication for ongoing opioid therapy at our clinic.

We understand that this may be a significant change for some patients. Our team is here to support you during this transition. If you are currently using marijuana and would like to discuss alternative treatment options for managing your pain, we encourage you to schedule an appointment with your provider.

Our commitment remains to provide safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Midwest Interventional Spine Specialists
